Child Safeguarding

Safeguarding is at the forefront of all we do at The Hub Jam.

Below is our Safeguarding Statement and Child Privacy Notice

Safeguarding Statement

Our Commitment

At The Hub Jam, safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do. We are dedicated to providing a safe, inclusive, and supportive online learning environment. As a fully qualified teacher (PGCE, QTS, Enhanced DBS, Child Safeguarding 2025, DfE Prevent Training 2025), I uphold the highest standards for student wellbeing, privacy, and protection.

Online Safety

  • We recognise that online environments can present unique risks, including peer-to-peer abuse and inappropriate behaviour.
  • All live lessons are delivered via secure, unpublished YouTube Livestream links. Only enrolled students and their families receive access via their Podia dashboard.
  • No cameras are required; students interact via moderated web-chat, quizzes, and polls.
  • All digital spaces (including Jam Spaces and forums) are strictly moderated. Inappropriate language or behaviour is not tolerated.
  • Students are encouraged to report any communication or behaviour—whether from peers or others—that makes them feel uncomfortable. All concerns are taken seriously and handled in line with our safeguarding procedures.

Student Code of Conduct

  • All students and participants agree to our Student Code of Conduct, which ensures a respectful, supportive, and safe learning environment.
  • Harassment, bullying, discrimination, or any behaviour that puts others at risk is strictly prohibited.
  • Breaches of the Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action, including temporary or permanent removal from The Hub Jam community.

Communication Guidelines

  • All communication between students and teachers takes place through official The Hub Jam channels (Podia, official email, moderated forums).
  • Private messaging or sharing of personal contact information is not allowed.
  • Teachers and staff do not engage in personal discussions with students outside the scope of educational sessions.
  • Any attempt to communicate outside official channels will be treated as a safeguarding concern and may result in disciplinary action.

Video Recordings & Data Protection

  • Some lessons may be recorded and made available permanently for learning support and quality assurance.
  • Recordings are securely hosted, never published publicly, and no student data, images, or personal information is ever shared or published.
  • Families agree not to share recordings outside The Hub Jam platform; an “opt-out” is available for verified students.
  • No recordings or personal details are used for marketing or promotional purposes without explicit consent.
  • The Hub Jam complies with all data protection laws, ensuring all personal information is handled securely and confidentially.

Safer Recruitment

  • Anyone joining The Hub Jam teaching team will undergo comprehensive background checks, including Enhanced DBS, reference checks, and verification of qualifications and identity.
  • References will be checked independently, and all staff must demonstrate commitment to safeguarding before joining.

Reporting Safeguarding Concerns

  • If a student shares a safeguarding worry, I listen carefully, take it seriously, and never promise secrecy if safety is at risk.
  • I explain clearly what happens next, record the disclosure using the student’s own words, and notify the appropriate authorities if needed.
  • All safeguarding concerns, breaches of the Code of Conduct, or inappropriate communication should be reported immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
  • All reports are treated confidentially and acted upon promptly, with support offered throughout the process.

Allegations Against Staff or Volunteers

  • Any allegation or concern regarding staff behaviour is taken seriously and handled in line with statutory guidance (including KCSIE 2024).
  • Allegations are referred immediately to the DSL, who will decide on the appropriate action and, if necessary, contact the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO).
  • Staff are encouraged to self-report any situation that could be misinterpreted, and all allegations are treated with strict confidentiality.

Parental Consent

  • Students under 18 must have the consent of a parent or guardian to participate in The Hub Jam.
  • Both students and parents are required to review and agree to our terms and safeguarding policy before joining.

Responsibilities & Training

  • I hold an Enhanced DBS (renewed annually) and up-to-date safeguarding training at least every two years.
  • I follow West Sussex Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB) procedures, or the student’s local authority if outside West Sussex.
  • As DSL, I ensure all policies and practices are current and effective.
